We bought it for a 5 hour airplane ride back East with our then 2 and 3 year old. My kids wouldn't keep the headphones on so they just watched it. You could hear the player just fine.We have used the player on 3 subsequent plane rides. You have to use headphones, which is the only courteous thing to do.
This little player has been through lots of things and it still works as well as it did when we bought it. Instead of buying a new one since we may go Blu-ray eventually, we hooked up this player to the TV. Last month our old DVD player hooked up to our second TV in the house quit. After reading reviews I wasn't so sure. It has a nice picture and easy to understand buttons that even my 4 year old has figured out. You can't hear the sound on an airplane. Since they are videos they have watch a zillion times, they don't care about the audio. We have used the player in our rental minivans on several trips, I bought a case that hangs between the seats.
It works awesome. I am so glad we purchased this player. It worked great. We have also used it to hook up to motel televisions to watch movies.
I forgot about the player till it was time for another trip, so I called LG. I gave it one star because I had to. Also the pay $45 for labor and any parts required, as well as shipping and handling upon return. I would play the disc and again it would stop, even after I cleaned everything. I have it on high and I can barely hear it.
First it started stopping. I bought mine from Best Buy which went out of business. Was told I would have to sent the player in, pay for shipping and handling. I would play it in the kitchen mostly, during the day, while everyone was at work. I bought mine and after four or five months, it stopped functioning properly.
Then it would run, but not play. Tomorrow morning I will be looking for someone locally to repair it, if they can. Also, I agree with the other reviewers about the sound too.
HE LOVES IT, and the battery life of > 3 hrs is HUGE plus. Purchased this Portable DVD player for my Grandson to use while flying to see us (2-3 hr flight). Recommend.
Nevertheless the remote works fine. But in any case, this has been a top notch buy. It comes with a remote, but you'd have to be extremely lazy to use a remote when you have your portable DVD player two feet in front of you. The only knock would be the USB port.
The battery life was at least 5 hours. I got it so I could copy my digital copy of The Dark Knight onto a flash drive and then play it on this portable DVD player. But the reason you get a portable DVD player is to watch in on a long road trip or on the airplane. This did not work. It has two headphone ports which is very convenient. I think the audio problems dealt with the volume when you didn't have headphones plugged in.
So why wouldn't you use your headphones. The menu buttons have a touch screen functionality which is very sexy. The screen rotates all around where you can close the lid with the screen facing out. I do not believe this player has the capability of reading whatever kind of file a digital copy is because it could read other files. I researched many different portable DVD players and settled on this one for two reasons: 1) the USB port, 2) Why not get an 8-inch screen.I read reviews of possible audio problems with this player but haven't experienced any problems. Based on this reason I can't complain about the audio output.
A very nice feature if you'd want to attach it to the back of a car seat for any back seat viewers.
I had the 'eye' cleaned - still same error. The DVD player worked great for about 11 months, when all of a sudden, it started saying "Disk Error", no matter what disk I put in. Even though I didn't have a receipt, LG refused to take it back, even given the manufacturing date. I owned this product for just under a year. It was a gift, and I was not given the receipt. The player had a label on it stating it's manufacturing date.
